Best Laid Plans

It seemed like a really good idea at the time. Sketching on the North Yorkshire moors...Er, no!
Drowned my camera, but did get one or two decent shots for Illustrations.

No, the dog's still not speaking to me!!!

All set and ready to go

Field Trip

Off to Haworth tomorrow for three days of much needed rest, drink, food, early nights and lots and lots of sketching, painting and photography. Hopefully, there should be lots to post when we get back.

Last Night's Sketch

Finally back to my sketching after a three week dry spell. Feels like a lot longer.

I Love You Sal

I'm back to work after a very worrying and emotional three weeks. I've never really needed a crisis to make me appreciate how important family is, but it sometimes takes one to remind us that family is everything and together, we can get through anything!

Catching up

Haven't had much drawing time the last few days. Had a lovely weekend away. Now trying to catch up with FMS experiments and 'bread and butter' work.

Digital Development

I've been working on a digital portrait today. This is it so far.

A long way to go yet. I always find this technique intense but quite therapeutic...till I stop and try to move my head and find my neck doesn't work anymore!!!

FMS Lady 1 & 2

Supposed to have posted these yesterday.

Trying a new drawing technique, smudge over line on shading???
Not sure if I like it, too heavy, makes them look a lot older than they're supposed to be.
The Photograph I worked with was really small with little detail.

I've been a very busy bee today

The images below are carbon trace on monoprint. Very messy! Great fun.
Images are meant to be dark and moody, but I need to be a lot more precise and less heavy handed with the finer detail.
Practice, practice, practice!!!

FMS 2. Henry Freeman (Lifeboatman 40 yrs)

Sole survivor of the Whitby Lifeboat disaster 1861.
12 souls lost.

After many encouraging words from my wonderful family and friends, I have begun preliminary sketches for my Frank Meadows Sutcliffe Collection, Illustration project.

FMS 1. Nell Baccus (Bakehouse)

Saturday 8 September 2012

Having fun, monoprinting with Malcolm's old fingerprint roller and copper board. The narrow format is very interesting to work with. Given it's history and reference, I am going to experiment with 'darker / sinister' themes. Moohah!
